Match Report | Tamworth’s Second XI would secure safety in West Midlands Division 1 if they could ensure victory against fellow strugglers Wednesbury on Saturday afternoon. Tamworth started strong and dominated play and were unfortunate not to take the lead after a run of short corners. Tamworth did take the lead though when Dave Belson opened the scoring after a winding run from Johnny Shaw left him with a simple tap in. Into the second half Tamworth rode their luck a little as Wednesbury edged back into the game but some fine defensive play from Dan Rhodes, Keith Rourke and Nick Pound kept them at bay. Goalkeeper Tony Banks made a crucial tackle outside of his D to stop the rare attack that broke through. Graeme Cook was awarded a yellow card for a tackle from behind which reduced Tamworth to ten men for the final quarter. However, it was Jez Holloway who secured the points as he slotted home to make it 2-0 ensuring Tamworth consolidate their position in the league for another season. Man of the match Dan Rhodes.
