Match Report | Tamworth Mens First XI recorded a win and clean sheet with a 3-0 home win over Old Wulfrunians. Neither side started particularly well as passes went astray and loose touches ran off the side of the pitch and it was the visitors how found their stride quickest and they were unlucky not to take the lead when a shot was cleared off the line by James Griffin. Tamworth were looking to strike on the counter attack but were unable to find the breakthrough in the first half. In the second half Town came out with much greater purpose. Old Wulfs continued to have more of the ball but it was Tamworth who struck first when Tom Sperrink struck into the top corner when a loose ball dropped to him at the top of the D after a breakaway down the right wing by Tom Hancox. Old Wulfs attempted to hit back and the hosts were indebted to man of the match Tony Banks who made a series of fine saves to maintain the slender lead. Eventually it was Tamworth who struck the killer blow as Sperrink scored his second, latching onto another pass from Hancox before slotting low beyond the onrushing keeper. Tom Grimshaw then sealed the win when he struck on the rebound into the roof of the net, having been denied earlier by a fine goalkeeping performance. Tamworth face Ludlow away in the final game of the season in two weeks time as they look to finish the season strongly. |
