Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI recorded an important 3-1 home win against Kingswinford to ease fears of being dragged into a relegation scrap. The game started as a cautious affair as the visitors were happy to keep possession and try to find their forwards with long balls. When Tamworth did get the ball they struggled to break down Kings resolute defence. Eventually the breakthrough came late in the half as Tom Sperrink squared the ball for Tom Hancox to tap into an empty net with the keeper stranded. In the second half Tamworth looked much more dangerous, with Kieron Dash using his pace to good effect to cause problems down the left wing, but they couldn't find the goal which would have made the game safe. This almost came back to haunt the hosts as Kingswinford scored with a penalty corner with 7 minutes to go. Fortunately Tamworth hit straight back as Dash was released down the line by Jay Haywood and crossed for Sperrink to deflect into the top corner. Tamworth then doubled their lead to close out the game as good work between Hancox and Tom Grimshaw was rewarded with the latter poking the ball past the keeper and defender on the line. |
