Match Report | TAMWORTH'S up and down season continued as they lost a seven-goal thriller against rivals Redditch on Saturday. Tamworth caught the hosts out early on as captain Ian Wagstaff converted an excellent short corner, drag flicking the ball straight past the opposition goalkeeper. However, the Town side were unable to keep their lead for long as Redditch broke into the D and were able to convert to equalize. Redditch soon added two more goals to their tally after a succession of smart short corners were converted, leaving Tamworth undeservingly behind at the break. In the second period Tamworth dominated possession as they attempted to mount a comeback, but were caught on the counter-attack as Redditch made it 4-1. However, Tamworth were resilient and fought their way back into the game. First Tom Grimshaw found himself in good space in front of goal and converted before Ben Acheson made a late run from defence, picked up a loose ball in the D and placed a shot in the top corner. It was, however, too little too late for Tamworth, who were reduced to ten men as Graham Cook was dismissed for a bad in the last ten minutes. James Griffin stood out in his first game for the first team this season and received player of the match. Tamworth face Kingswinford at home on Saturday at 2pm (QEMS). |
