Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI fell to a 4-3 defeat away at Old Wulfrunians on Saturday. Tamworth had taken an early lead when Tom Sperrink’s mishit shot fell to Ryan Brisco who played a delicate reverse stick shot to lift the ball over the keeper. The visitors weren’t able to build on this lead however and conceded two goals in a lacklustre first half display. Tamworth’s efforts to impose themselves on the game in the second half suffered a hammer blow as the hosts scored twice from short corners with well executed drag flicks to leave Tamworth trailing 4-1. This seemed to spark Town into life and Sperrink pulled one goal back when his speculative squirmed under the keeper and Tom Hancox put Tamworth back into the contest with a drilled shot into the bottom corner from the top of the D. Tamworth searched for the equaliser but Old Wulfs keeper continued to stand in their way. When they did eventually beat him Ian Wagstaff was incredibly unlucky to see his shot cannon off the foot of the post from a penalty corner. Tamworth have a week off before a final game prior to the Christmas break when they face Ludlow at home. |
