Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI lost 6-1 at home to Stafford in a key battle between promotion chasers. A competitive first half got off to a great start for Tamworth when Tom Grimshaw’s through ball set Tom Sperrink away and he squared for Tom Hancox to give Tamworth the lead. Stafford came back strongly but the central defensive partnership of Dave Langford and Ben Acheson had restricted Stafford’s pacey front line to chances from set pieces. Unfortunately this was to be the hosts undoing as two penalty corners were converted to leave Tamworth trailing 2-1 at the break. The second half was Tamworth’s worst performance of the season as Stafford put constant pressure on and Town were unable to find a way out. This eventually saw Stafford score 4 goals, the pick of which was a smart deflection from a powerful strike into the D but Tamworth will be frustrated as they gifted the visitors the ball in dangerous areas too often. Town are still in touch with the promotion places but need a run of results starting at Old Wulfrunians next week. |
