Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI stormed to an 8-1 win away at Kingswinford with six goals from Tom Sperrink. The hosts were heavily depleted by recent losses however Tamworth were also missing three of the regular back four and captain Ian Wagstaff chose to gamble on a 3-5-2 formation. This seemed to have backfired as Kingswinford took an early lead with a breakaway goal down the right wing but Tamworth re-grouped and restored parity when Sperrink converted from first team debutant Kieron Dash’s right wing cross. Sperrink then gave Tamworth the lead when he struck a rebound inside the near post and completed his hatrick when Tom Hancox played a weighted pass in behind and he lifted the ball over the keeper. The visitors remained on top and Sperrink added his and Tamworth’s fourth of the first half with a flicked shot from a penalty corner. In the second half the scoring streak continued, Ben Popple scored a superb solo goal as he struck reverse stick into the far corner past the advancing keeper. Sperrink slid in to convert Ryan Brisco’s drilled pass and scored his sixth soon after when Hancox pushed the ball under the keeper for Sperrink to tap into the open goal. Brisco completed the days scoring when he broke into the D and rounded the keeper as Tamworth showed their defensive mettle in the final 10 minutes with Nick Martin and Dave Langford excelling when Town lost Popple to a hand injury and kept out the hosts to record their biggest win of the season. |
