Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI shared the spoils with top-of-the-table Bromsgrove on Saturday but they will count themselves unlucky not to have won. Tamworth looked strong from the start as the midfield trio of Ian Wagstaff, Tom Grimshaw and Andy Herring worked tirelessly to cut out potential Bromsgrove attacks. Tamworth's hard work paid off when Wagstaff slipped the ball right to Ben Acheson from a penalty corner who drived the ball past the goalkeeper to give the home side the lead. In the second period, Tamworth doubled their advantage when Tom Sperrink broke into the D and struck a shot which was deflected in by Tom Hancox. The pressure mounted on the Town side though when Bromsgrove scraped a lucky goal back when a mis-hit shot deflected past goalkeeper Tony Banks to make it 2-1. Some hard defending by Tamworth followed with Graham Cook making some crucial tackles to keep the posing threat at bay. However, with just minutes on the clock remaining Tamworth were caught short as Bromsgrove counter attacked and securing an equalising goal at the death. Unlucky not to win, Tamworth will be looking to build on a strong display in an away fixture against Bloxwich away on Saturday at 1.30pm. |
