Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI fell at the first hurdle of the National Vase as they were beaten 5-3 away against Buxton. Tamworth were not at full strength but had started strongly and were dominating territory and possession with Ben Merrick unlucky to be denied twice by the keeper. Buxton however offered a threat on the counter attack and they struck twice in the first half firstly following a break down the left wing and the second a delicate lob over the stranded keeper. The visitors came out determined to make a game of it in the second half and following a series of penalty corners Tom Sperrink finally got Tamworth on the scoreboard with a strike into the bottom corner. This gave Town a lift and they equalised soon after when Ryan Brisco fired across goal and Sperrink deflected in. Not for the first time this season it proved a false dawn and Buxton grabbed two goals in quick succession to regain their commanding lead. Tamworth hit back when Callum Taylor managed to squeeze the ball beyond the Buxton keeper on the rebound but Buxton had the final say with their fifth goal. |
