Match Report | The ladies seconds returned to league action following the Christmas break in this rearranged game against Stafford on Saturday winning 3-0. The opening exchanges were end to end but it was the town side that took the early lead, Sarah Arnold fed the ball to Fiona Sinclair who made a strong run up the pitch and her pass found Elaine Foxley unmarked in the 'D' who made no mistake with a reverse stick strike. Tamworth took control after the goal playing some super hockey and we're unlucky not to add to their score. The second session continued with Tamworth dominating, Paula Cooper and Jo Goode combined well down the right flank earning two penalty corners in the space of four minutes and saw the side score twice, the first a strike from Claire Miles then a brilliant deflection from Stevie Williams gave the town side a well deserved 3-0 lead. A rare attack from Stafford forced a short corner but Tamworth's defence kept their concentration as Clare Phillips cleared off the line to keep their clean sheet in-tact and the defense was rarely troubled again, at the other end of the pitch a number of chances were created with Williams and Foxley linking up well with Foxley's intelligent movement up front at the heart of Tamworth's best moves, deservedly winning her the POM vote, and the ladies move up to third in the league |
