Tamworth came away with a share of the spoils against local rivals Lichfield on Saturday with a 2-2 draw.
The side made a bright start to the game, passing the ball around in style, but an early injury to Jo Goode meant that the town side had to reshuffle and it took a little while for them to settle after that.
It was Lichfield who took the lead as they caught Tamworth high up the pitch with a quick break. The town side responded well as they started to control the play again making good connections all over the pitch, Jane Escombe and Gemma Bradshaw, Paula Cooper and Fiona Sinclair worked the ball well down both flanks with Elaine Foxley and Anne Marshall combining well up front. When the town side moved the ball quickly they looked at their most dangerous as they forced a number of short corners, and from one of these Claire Miles equalised with a well taken strike.
The second session saw both sides creating opportunities with GKs from each team making important saves, although it was the town side that just edged possession as they had the more clear cut chances, Gemma Bradshaw capped a fine performance as she gave Tamworth a well deserved lead. Unfortunately this lead was short lived as a disputed short corner was given and the resulting shot took an unlucky deflection off a defender's stick to wrong foot the keeper and make the score 2-2. A few more chances were created for Tamworth but they couldn't find that all important winner and the game finished all square.
