Match Report | Top of the league Tamworth played local rivals Lichfield and continued their push for back to back promotions, Tamworth started the game well and held much of the possession throughout the first half, this possession paid off mid-way through the 1st half and from a short corner routine seeing Bowyer and Holloway link up and Simon Bowyer fire the ball into the back of the net. Tamworth continued to play some good hockey, but with opportunities coming at a premium. Just before half time Lichfield broke away and had a great chance to equalise, but for two fine saves from Ethan Oxley, taking the away side 1-0 up at half time.
The second half continued in much of the same pattern, but Tamworth looked comfortable throughout the game and stayed calm and composed while Lichfield looked to disrupt the match. This composure led to some great wing play from Jez Holloway and Man of the Match Ben Hidderley and created further opportunities, the pressure paid off as a neat ball in to the D and Dave Belson squared the ball to James Goode as the keeper came out and Goode shot saved by the keeper fell nicely for Tamworth and Belson reverse stick flicked it in, to make it 2-0. Tamworth secured all 3 points later in the game as Simon Boyer picked up a superb assist as he fired the ball in to the D, Holloway let the ball run and Belson managed to get a deflection on the fired ball in and this nutmegged the keeper and the ball flew into the net – the away side taking a 3-0 victory.
