Match Report | Tamworth Mens 2nds failed to stretch their lead at the top after a disappointing result away at Leek this weekend. Tamworth started the game lively and in a tightly contested first half took the lead through a classic Jez Holloway and Simon Bowyer short corner routine with Bowyer neatly slotting home to give the away side a 1-0 lead. Leek pressed and controlled much of the possession throughout the second half, but Tamworth looked dangerous on the counter attack, and took a 2-0 lead through a well struck finish from Dave Belson.
After going 2-0 early in the second half Tamworth sat back and Leek struck through a drag flick short corner routine to make it 2-1 and then the pressure continued to build and build, Leek then striking twice from close range to take a 3-2 lead. Again Tamworth had chances to draw level through Belson, Goode and Bowyer but they failed to get that 3rd goal to bring it back to all square.
The table is incredible close with 5 teams all within 3 points of each other. Tamworth’s Man of the Match was Gabe Hilton, who making only his second appearance for the 2nds as a youth player had a superb game with great tackling, determination and effort.
