Match Report | Tamworth Men’s 2nds looked to bounce back after a loss in their opening game of the season. The game started and for the 1st 20 minutes was a very even affair with both teams creating some good moves without really threatening the scoreline.
Tamworth with that home advantage opened the scoring with a nice bit of play with Belson squaring the ball to Goode who finished with a nice reverse stick effort. Leek came close to almost equalising, but a good stop by Oxley in goal maintained the scoreline. Before half time Tamworth extended their lead through a smart hit from Busby, through to Poundy who drew in the defender and slipped in Belson to finish with a flicked effort over the outstretched keeper. Tamworth held a 2-0 lead at half time.
Tamworth grew stronger in to the game and started the 2nd half really well with some nice possession based hockey, and soon finished the game off with a brace from Ben Hidderley and a 1st senior career goal for youngster James Whittaker who ended the scoring for Tamworth with a wonderful piece of individual skill leading to strike into the bottom corner making it 5-0. Leek found the net to get on the scoresheet after a short corner routine ending the scoring at 5-1 to the home side.
Whilst man of the match went to Poundy for his 3 assists, notable mention to both Anthony Hilton and James Whittaker for superb performances in a great victory for the home side. |
