Tamworth Ladies Thirds Vs North Stafford 2

Tamworth 3rds set off for North Staffordshire on a sunny cold morning with only 9 players due to illness. The team was mixture of new and regular players were playing one of the leagues top teams. Knowing it was going to be a very tough away match the team set out.

 The opposition scored several quick early goals from some great shots and short corners in an early flurry. The team dug deep and worked together changing the defensive routine on the short corners to reduce the goals being scored. Our most inexperienced player became bolder tackling and winning some balls and getting in some fantastic positions. When it came to half time we were 7 - 0 down.

After a positive team talk and some changes in tactics the team started the second half. There were some additional goals but there was fantastic stops and clearances from the short corners the opposition had. There were several excursions into the oppositions D - mainly lead by our inexperienced player who gained confidence through the match. Unfortunately no goals were scored but the teams confidence increased. The team finished the match 10 - 0 down.  

The game was hard and quick but Tamworth never gave up - battling to the end. The opposition, spectators and the umpires were impressed and commented on the teams resilience. The team enjoyed the game and are gaining experience with every match as a number of the players are playing 2 leagues higher than they usually play. There must also be a special mention for our goalkeeper for the match - Margaret Worsley who is still playing at 73.
