Match Report | The ladies good form continued on Saturday as they beat Leek 3-0. It was Leek who made the brighter start to the game passing the ball around nicely but they failed to create any clear cut chances, and it was the town side who took the lead slightly against the run of play when Claire Miles scored a fine individual goal after 9 minutes. This settled Tamworth and although both sides enjoyed good spells of possession the town side looked the more dangerous in front of goal, with Fiona Sinclair going close to scoring Tamworth’s second. But a four minute spell in which the town were awarded two penalties after well worked short corner strikes from Becky Moore and Steph Wagstaff were illegally stopped on the line, saw Claire Miles step up to convert both to complete a first half hat-trick and send the town into the break 3-0 up. During the second session the game opened up as both teams tired with leek forcing a number of short corners but the town defence of Paula Cooper, Sam Bowyer, Clare Phillips and GK Lisa Moore held firm to keep leek at bay. Kirsty Brown had a superb game in midfield as she worked tirelessly up and down the pitch and was deservedly voted player of the match, although Tamworth failed to add to their score in the second half this was an excellent team performance. |
