Match Report | Tamworth ladies over 45s suffered heartbreak at the quarter final stage in this year's plate cup competition losing 3-2 to Yorkshire side Aire valley. Aire valley made the better start to the match as Tamworth took time to settle and find their rythmn, but the town defence dealt comfortably with any attacks. Although midway through the half it was Aire valley who took the lead and scored a second soon after both from shorts corners with a couple of decisions disappointingly going against the town. Tamworth were now starting to play with confidence as their midfield started to control the play with some superb passing moves going close to scoring on a couple of occasions before good work from Fiona Wylie and Di Milner who slipped the ball to Claire Miles to flick the ball past the on coming GK to score for the town to go into the break 2-1 down. Tamworth started the second session as they finished the first by far the better side but unfortunately couldn't capitalise on their dominance with Di Miller, Fiona Wylie and Becky Wootton all going agonisingly close to equalising. Somewhat against the run of play Aire valley scored from another short corner to go 3-1 up. But to Tamworths credit they kept pushing forward and were rewarded with a second goal from Becky Wootton to set up a frantic last 5 minutes as the town tried to find a deserved equaliser but it wasn't to be as Aire valley progressed to the semi final. A superb team performance from Tamworth one that the team should be really proud of. |
