Match Report |
Following promotion to Staffordshire ladies division 1 at the end of last season, Tamworth ladies seconds had a tough first league game against Dudley 1st XI to open the season. Under pressure from the start the Tamworth defence held strong despite losing central defender Claire Phillips to a head injury 15 minutes into the game. As their confidence grew from some excellent passing play Tamworth started to create chances for themselves and following a move that saw a quick succession of passes between Claire Miles, Fiona Wylie, and Alex Wylie, Rebecca warburton popped the hall into the net past the strong Dudley keeper. Nadia Williamson made a number of excellent runs down the right hand side of the pitch as did bea pound on the left and Alex Wylie together with her mum Fiona excelled in midfield working tirelessly to create further chances. Just before half time a raised shot by Dudley was deflected past Tamworth keeper Nikki Youngman off Fiona Wylies thigh to make the score 1 all at half time. Dudley came out strongly in the second half but Tamworth continued to soak up the pressure with keeper Youngman make a number of saves. Dudley broke quickly out of defence and scored to take the lead but Tamworth never gave up and a sparkling run by Alex Wylie to the top of the D opened up the Dudley defence. Wylie passed to miles who took a first time shot that hammered into the back of the net to equalise. The game ended 2 all, a great start to what will be a tough season back in division 1.
