Match Report | Tamworth ladies played in the England hockey over 45’s master’s cup competition on Sunday against a very strong Solihull side and reigning champions taking them all the way to sudden death penalties. The town side took a while to settle into the game as their opposition put them under immediate pressure with Vicky Butler making a number of brilliant saves before the deadlock was broken mid-way through the half. Once the town side settle they became much more competitive with Fiona Wylie working tirelessly in midfield alongside Jacqui Casey, Tamworth had a couple of chances but couldn’t quite apply the finishing touches. Only one goal down and still in the game Tamworth stayed positive and although they were under long spells of pressure during the second half they defended well with GK Butler again making vital saves to keep the town in the game but the town did look dangerous on the break and forced a couple of short corners, Rachel Rowe equalised from one as she volleyed home after Jacqui Casey and Claire Hicks both saw their shots blocked and the game went to penalty flicks to decide the tie. Four all after the first round it was Solihull who won it on sudden death. Tamworth now go into the plate full of confidence after a positive performance. POM Vicky Butler |
