Match Report

The ladies seconds returned to league action on Saturday, coming away with a 4-0 win against Barton.  Tamworth started the game brightly passing the ball around with confidence as their midfield dominated possession. Jo Goode had another brilliant game on the right flank using her pace and skill to great effect creating numerous goal scoring opportunities, but with Barton defending in numbers it wasn’t until midway through the half that Tamworth made the breakthrough, Bea Pound won the ball in the ‘D’ before making a perfectly weighted pass to Claire Miles whose first time strike finally gave the town side the lead.  Soon after Jacqui Casey added a second after a goalmouth scramble the ball fell to Casey who made no mistake as she slotted the ball past a number of defenders and the keeper, Tamworth had a shot cleared off the line with a number of players also going close to adding to the score but they went into the break only 2-0 up.

The second half continued in the same vein with Tamworth dominating Bea Pound and Rebecca Warburton worked tirelessly up front and in midfield as the town forced a number of short corners frustratingly for the home side they struggled to get shots away as Barton defended well.  Barton rarely carried any threat to the town goal but Sarah Hutchins, Paula Cooper and Leah Ward dealt with any attack with ease, on the one occasion they did break through GK Nicky Youngman was alert to the danger as she made a super diving save to keep her clean sheet intact. Tamworth’s third came from a well worked move that found Elaine Foxley unmarked in the ‘D’ and she struck the ball home to make it 3-0.  Claire Miles scored her second and Tamworth’s fourth goal, again Jo Goode driving down the right before setting up Miles for her twenty-first goal of the season. Tamworth go into the final three games of the season sitting in second place and are still in the hunt for promotion.
