Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI were beaten 5-0 at Shrewsbury to leave them on the brink of relegation from West Midlands Division 1. Tamworth took a strong side but started slowly and this cost them as they slipped behind to two well executed penalty corners in the opening stages. Town rallied somewhat but struggled to create many chances of note. Shrewsbury added a third goal from open play to put them well in control at the break. After half time Tamworth had their best spell of the game with Ben Popple threatening from the left but the home side kept Town at bay. The game then became fractured with Tamworth losing players to injury and both having players put in the sin bin. Once the game returned to eleven versus eleven Shrewsbury gained the upper hand and scored twice more to add some gloss to the scoreline. Tamworth’s hopes of avoid relegation hang by a thread as Edgbaston won to leave Tamworth eight points from safety with only three games to play. They face bottom place Bournville at home on Saturday needing a win to keep their hopes alive. |
