Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI slipped to the foot of the table as they were beaten 6-3 at home to Pershore on Saturday. Tamworth were keen to build on an improved performance the previous week but found themselves behind in the early stages as Pershore took a 2-0 lead. Town halved the deficit when Ben Popple gathered a pass from Tom Hancox on the edge of the D and lifted the ball over the outstretched keeper before striking into the empty goal and looked to be back in the game when Tom Sperrink levelled the scores as he struck low into the bottom left corner from a penalty corner but Pershore hit back to lead 3-2 at the break. The second half saw Tamworth throw caution to the wind in pursuit of an equaliser and James Miles in goal kept Town in the tie as he made a series of excellent saves to keep the visitors at bay. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough and Pershore struck twice in quick succession to take a strangle hold on the game. Tamworth hit back with a brilliant solo effort from Ryan Brisco who weaved his way through the middle of the pitch before slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner but as Tamworth pressed for another goal Pershore scored again to seal the win. Tamworth travel to second placed Stafford next week as they look to find points to match their improved performances. |
