Match Report

Claire Miles hit her fourth hat trick of the season with Fiona Ferguson adding the other as the ladies 2’s won their seventh successive league game to maintain second spot in Staffs Division 2.  Tamworth started in positive fashion against a well organised opposition who made it difficult for the town side to break them down, but the tireless running of Jess Cooper and Kirsty Brown in midfield created opportunities for the town side alongside Jo Goode who had another excellent game on the right and she combined well with Rebecca Warburton to set up Claire Miles to strike home to give the Tamworth the lead. Tamworth had a number of chances to increase their lead before North Staffs equalised to go into the break all square.

Tamworth came out the blocks quickly at the start of the second half as they scored two early goals, Miles from a short corner then three minutes later the town broke quickly from the back with Kirsty Brown playing a neat one two with Bea Pound before crossing to Rebecca Warburton whose shot hit the post but fell kindly for Fiona Ferguson to slot into an empty net to give the town a 3-1 lead. North Staffs did enjoy a period of good possession but Leah Ward had an outstanding game in defence making a number of crucial tackles, although a fine individual goal saw North Staffs reduce the deficit, but another short corner strike from Miles saw her complete her hat trick and restore the towns two goal lead and sealed the win for the town, another impressive performance from the team with Bea Pound impressing on her second team debut with League POM going to Jo Goode and the team award to Leah Ward.
