Match Report | Tamworth Men’s Second team suffered a disappointing defeat in a controversial game against Barlastan. Tamworth looked unsettled in the opening quarter of the first half as the home team took advantage. Tamworth’s defence were caught short when Barlastand squared into the D for the attacker to tap in from six yards. Barlastan quickly added a second whilst their tails were up from a fast paced shot from the top of the D. Tamworth fought back well before half time and the pressure paid off as Johnny Shaw was on hand to tap in from a scramble in the box. To make it 2-1. Into the second period it was the umpires who seemed to dominate proceedings as three Tamworth players were side-lined with yellow cards for separate incidents. Tamworth defended well with nine men and looked the better team as they continued to push for the equaliser. However, it was not to be their day as a deflected shot came off Martin Shakespeare’s stick from a Barlsatan attack meant the new own goal rule introduced this season would define the final result. 3-1 Barlastan. Tamworth will be adamant on bouncing back on Saturday with what already looks like a season defining game against Kingswinford.
