Tamworth Ladies Thirds Vs WATS 2

The ladies thirds faced top of the table WATS on Saturday and produced a fine perormance to win 4-2 and become the first team to beat them this season, a win that puts the town side back in the hunt for promotion.  Tamworth made a bright start passing the ball around nicely with Anne Marshall and Bethan Gilbert combining well down the right.  Elaine Foxley opened the scoring for Tamworth reacting quickest after a goal mouth melee.  The towns back line of Sarah Price, Lisa Moore, Kate Caddick, Linda Harrison and Lesley Broadway kept WATS forwards out with some excellent defending with the midfield trio of Bethan Gilbert , Fiona Wylie and Elaine Foxley working tirelessly to set up a number of attacks.  A nasty injury to centre back Lisa Moore meant a reshuffle at the back but the town side recovered well and continued to play god hockey, Elaine Foxley set up Claire Miles with a golden opportunity to increase the towns lead but she squandered the chance hitting wide and two minutes later WATS were level. But a super strike from the top of the 'D' from Fiona Wylie restored the Tamworth's lead.

Tamworth continued to be the more dominant team in the second session but it was WATS who had the first scoring opportunity as they were awarded a penalty which fortunately for Tamworth they missed, spurred on by this Tamworth pushed forward and their third goal was the goal of the game, the ball was played out from the back to Di Milner whose defence splitting pass found Anne Marshall on the right who drove into the 'D' drawing the keeper before squaring the ball to Claire Miles for an easy finish.  Claire Miles scored her second of the game following another driving run from Elaine Foxley before WATS added a second but the town side were deserved winners.
