Match Report | Tamworth produced their best performance of the season so far as they beat previously unbeaten Cannock on Saturday. In an evenly contested first half, which saw lead change three times, it was Cannock who enjoyed the early possession although they didn’t threaten the towns goal and as Tamworth settled they played some good hockey forcing a number of short corners resulting in the award of a penalty after a defender stopped a goal bound shot on the line with their foot, which Claire Miles converted. Cannock equalised soon after and then took the lead from a deflected shot that wrong footed keeper Vicky Butler. Tamworth hit back with two goals from Elaine Foxley following some excellent play from Lisa Moore and Anne Marshall which saw the town go into half time 3-2 up. Tamworth dominated the second session with Di Milner and Anne Marshall adding two more goals to extend the towns lead. As Cannock pushed forward Tamworth exploited the gaps in their defence and could have scored more goals but for the excellent performance of Cannock’s keeper, the towns sixth goal came when a defence splitting pass from Claire Miles found Elaine Foxley acres of space who drew the keeper to slip the ball to Chris Mander to score, much to the delight of the crowd. Cannock applied some late pressure but Tamworth’s back four defended really well ably supported by keeper Vicky Butler who made some good saves to give Tamworth a well deserved win.
