Match Report | Tamworth Men’s 1stXI were relegated following a 9-3 defeat at home to Old Silhillians on Saturday. Tamworth had a large group of supporters on the sidelines but unfortunately were missing too many regular first team players to get the win they required to prevent them returning to West Midlands One following the previous seasons promotion. The visiting side had started strongly and took a two goal lead after capitalising on Tamworth mistakes. This spurred Town into life and Tom Homer fed Tom Sperrink who scored with a flick a low to the advancing keepers’ right. Ryan Briscoe then scored from close range before Homer completed the turn around with a reverse stick shot across goal. Old Sils almost got back on level terms only for first team debutant James Miles to tip a penalty corner over the bar. After the break Tamworth were put to the sword and after two goals early in the second half heads went down and Old Sils scored 5 more to complete a rout as Tamworth chased the win they required. Tamworth did have chances but Old Sils were also only denied further goals by a defiant performance from Miles who saved twice from point blank range in a very open game. |
