Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI lost 3-1 away to Old Halesonians on Saturday in a difficult fixture against the side placed second in the league. The visitors fell behind early in the game when Old Hales opened the scoring following a series of penalty corners. Tamworth’s task then became more challenging as Andy Herring was sent to the sin bin and the hosts capitalised as they doubled their lead with a well worked move. A re-shuffled back four recovered somewhat and held out to half time with centre backs Goode and Haywood putting in a tireless effort to limit the chances as the promotion chasers had the lion’s share of possession. After the break Tamworth rallied and although Old Hales added their third goal Tamworth finally looked to be creating meaningful chances as Tom Hancox had a shot cleared off the line and Tom Sperrink was denied by a double save from close range. Tamworth grabbed a consolation goal late on as Sperrink cut the ball back from the baseline for Hancox and he laid off for Ben Popple to drill his shot low into the corner to ensure Tamworth maintain their record of scoring in every game this season. Next week Tamworth face Warwick Uni at home in a must win fixture in order for them to remain any chance of escaping relegation. |
