Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI threw away a two goal lead to lose 6-3 away to Stratford on Saturday. Tamworth got off to the best possible start with two early goals in the opening period. The first came when Tom Sperrink was released down the left wing and flicked a pass to Ryan Brisco who controlled on the volley before lifting the ball over the onrushing keeper. The visitors then doubled their lead when Tom Hancox broke into the D and with his shot saved it fell to Tom Beasley who unselfishly squared for Sperrink to score. Stratford came storming back, their first a shot from the right across the keeper before they equalised with a penalty corner routine. The comeback was completed as Tamworth lost possession in midfield and the ball broke in the D for the Stratford forward to strike reverse stick into the corner. Stratford made the better start to the second half as they pinned Tamworth back by pressing in numbers and they were rewarded with a fourth goal. Tamworth managed to reduce the lead when Tom Hancox reacted quickest to tap in reverse stick on the rebound after Ian Wagstaff’s initial penalty corner shot was saved. Unfortunately it proved to be a false dawn for Tamworth as Stratford scored twice more late on before Tamworth went down to 10 men for the closing stages as Andy Herring saw yellow for dissent. Town are now 4 points from safety with 4 games left to play and face high flying Old Halesonians next Saturday. |
