Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI slipped further into relegation trouble as they were beaten 5-2 by league leaders Hampton-in-Arden. Town started brightly and were having the better of the chances against a side yet to drop points this season but they fell two goals behind to a scrappy goal from a short corner and a powerful strike from open play. Despite Tamworth continuing to match their opponents the visitors added a third following a driving run and hit from the left wing. Tamworth hit back immediately as a breakaway resulted in Ryan Brisco squaring the ball to Tom Hancox who turned the ball in from a tight angle with the last touch of the first half. After the break Hampton took more control of the game as Tamworth were limited to fewer chances and they extended their lead before the hosts hit back when Ben Popple laid the ball onto Brisco who swept into the top left corner to reduce the deficit to 4-2. Hampton had the final say when a cross from the left was turned in from close range and to compound the defeat there was news that the team had been docked a point for ill-discipline over recent games. Tamworth will be pleased with the overall performance against tough opposition but they must replicate this in a relegation 6 pointer against Old Sils next week. |
