Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI lost 3-2 away to fellow strugglers Warwick Uni. The hosts had started the better and played possession hockey which had Tamworth working hard to restrict their chances. Warwick eventually opened the scoring midway through the half when a pass slipped inside found the forward who lashed his shot into the far corner. The goal appeared to galvanise the visitors and when the ball was cleared from a penalty corner a breakaway down the left was pulled back to Ian Wagstaff who released Tom Sperrink on the right hand side to drill his shot low into the backboard. Further chances came for Tamworth before the break but the sides went into half time level. After the break Tamworth continued to press and appeared to have the momentum when a neat one-two with Sperrink resulted in Tom Beasley collecting the ball in the D and flicking into the corner to give Tamworth a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately Warwick came back strongly and with Tamworth reduced to 10 men following a harsh yellow card for Ryan Brisco they capitalised with two goals in 10 minutes. Tamworth were unable to find the equaliser and will be frustrated to lose to a team so close to them in the league as they slipped into the bottom two for the first time this season. |
