Match Report | Tamworth First XI were thrashed 7-3 away at Sikh Union Coventry. Tamworth were missing a number of key players and made a slow start to the game as they fell 3-0 down in the first 25 minutes. This seemed to kick start the visitors into life and having seen a number of good chances created they finally took one as a long ball down the right wing was squared for Andy Herring who played in Nick Martin who lifted his shot over the keeper and Tom Sperrink turned it in from close range. Ian Wagstaff then cut the home sides lead to one when his cross-shot was deflected beyond the keeper by a defender under pressure from Tom Beasley. The sides almost went in level as Sperrink had a shot cleared off the line and Ryan Brisco saw a looping shot drift onto the top of the net. In the second half a yellow card saw Tamworth down to ten men as Nick Martin was harshly sin binned for a series of foot fouls and the Sikh’s took advantage extending their lead to 5-2. When Tamworth got back to full strength they found themselves with a man advantage as the home team had a player sin binned for persistent fouling but Tamworth’s attack couldn’t keep the ball from a talented Sikh midfield. The lead was extended to 7-2 and although Sperrink scored late on with a first time lift over the keeper from Ian Wagstaff’s weighted aerial pass it served only as a consolation goal. The defeat was compounded as James Goode was also sent to the sideline for an innocuous challenge and Tamworth were left to try and focus on the positive aspects, notably performances from Beasley and Brisco, as they aim to bounce back next week. |
