Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI were beaten 4-1 at home by a well organised Finchfield side on Saturday. Tamworth made the worst possible start as an aerial pass allowed the Finchfield forward to collect the ball in a dangerous area and cross for a simple opener. The visitors then doubled their lead with a cross from the right which was stroked in at the far post and the task became harder as Andy Herring found himself in the sin bin for a petulant reaction. Tamworth rallied somewhat and Ian Wagstaff gave Tamworth a way back into the game with a drag flick late in the first half. The start of the second half set the tone for the match as Finchfield scored a controversial third as their attacker robbed Dave Langford of the ball when collecting an aerial and scored via a reverse stick shot, which was awarded despite Tamworth’s protestations. The game then descended into chaos as both sides had players sin binned with Tamworth at one stage down to nine men with Captain Ian Wagstaff followed Ben Acheson to the corner of the pitch. Finchfield added a fourth mid-way through the second period and Tamworth rarely threatened to take anything from this game but will need to bounce back as they take a break from league action and face Melton in the Trophy next Sunday. |
