Match Report | Match Report England Hockey Championships Tier 4 round Two Tamworth Ladies v Nuneaton Ladies 2nd XI Score 4-3 Tamworth ladies came through a hard fought cup game on Sunday beating local rivals and last year’s finalists Nuneaton 4-3 in the England hockey championships. The town side made a bright start to the game and opened the scoring on 17 minutes Amie Bishop the quickest to react as she followed up a penalty corner strike. Tamworth continued to have the better of the half with youngsters Rebecca Warburton and Jess Thacker making their debuts for the side working really hard down the flanks, and with more clinical finishing should have added to the score. It wasn’t until the 32nd minute that the town scored their second Jess Thacker crossing for Fiona Jones to slot home to give the town a 2-0 half time lead. Nuneaton came out for the second half in positive fashion putting Tamworth on the back foot scoring three times in the opening 15 minutes. To their credit the town quickly regained their composure and started to pass the ball around nicely again, a superb through ball from Gemma Bradshaw found Amie Bishop unmarked in the ‘D’ and her defection was well saved by the GK but once again quick reactions from Bishop who made no mistake as she followed up her own shot to equalise for Tamworth. Two minutes later Claire Miles scored what was to be the winning goal following good work from Elaine Foxley who slipped the ball back to Miles who fired a first time shot into the corner. Tamworth saw out the remaining 10 minutes and now go into the third round. |
