Match Report | Tamworth ladies over 45’s suffered heartbreak in the first round of the England master’s plate cup competition on Sunday as they lost a penalty shoot-out to Amersham and Chalfont. Amersham made a strong start to the game and dominated the opening 25 minutes as the town side struggled to get the ball out of their own half or keep any meaningful possession. GK Vicky Butler made some excellent saves and clearances but the pressure finally told as Amersham scored two goals in quick succession. This seemed to spur Tamworth on as they finally settled into the game finishing the half strongly putting together some decent moves. Di Milner pulled a goal back with an easy tap in then added a second soon after following a good move involving Claire Miles, Fiona Wylie and Elaine Foxley to go into the break all square. Tamworth were now full of confidence passing the ball around nicely and another flowing move saw Milner complete her hat trick with a super strike to give the town the lead for the first time in the match. Tamworth were now controlling the play and looking strong defensively as they snuffed out any Amersham attack but with less than 5 minute remaining Amersham capitalised on a mistake to equalise and send the game into a penalty shoot-out. The resulting shoot-out saw Amersham go through 3-2 leaving the town bitterly disappointed. POM Fiona Wylie |
