Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI suffered a shock 8-0 mauling at home to Telford & Wrekin Second XI to see their lead over the chasing pack slashed to just one point. Tamworth were missing 4 key players and it showed as they made a slow start and conceded three times in the first half. Tamworth's only notable chance came when Tom Sperrink scuffed his shot from a penalty corner which struck the foot of the post before being cleared. Tamworth knew a good start to the second period would be vital but were on the back foot and sloppy passing and a disciplined press from the visitors saw Town left in a mess as misplaced passes and lack of movement gifted Telford the opportunity to extend their lead further. Again Tamworth's best chance came from a penalty corner, this time the shot slipping past the post and Tom Hancox also came close as he deflected a shot narrowly wide from a cross from the right. As Town went into meltdown captain Ryan Brisco and Sperrink both received yellow cards for dissent with Tamworth somehow able to weather the storm with nine men as Telford took their foot off the gas in the closing stages. Tamworth face a crunch weekend double header as they travel to third placed Old Wulfrunians away on Saturday before their game in hand at home to Newtown on Sunday in what could be a season defined pair of fixtures. |
