Match Report | Tamworth travelled to Evesham for the first round of the master’s plate competition on Sunday and were disappointed to come away with a 4-2 loss. Tamworth matched a well organised Bretforton side and enjoyed a lot of possession in the opening 20 minutes with Chris Mander having the towns best opportunity only to see her shot brilliantly saved by the keeper, an injury to Fiona Wylie meant a re-shuffle for the town side and with their opposition enjoying a good spell of their own Tamworth were indebted to keeper Vicky Butler who made some excellent saves to keep the town in the game, but the award of a controversial penalty corner gave Bretforton the lead late in the half. Undeterred the town side pressed forward and with the last hit of the half Captain Rachel Rowe equalised for Tamworth following a good penalty corner routine. Tamworth started the second half with confidence with Paula Cooper and Rachel Rowe combining well down the right flank but again Bretforton’s defence and keeper kept the town side at bay. Bretforton then went up the other end and scored two goals in two minutes, Tamworth took a little time to recover from this disappointment but a second goal for the town from Claire Miles gave the side hope of getting an equaliser and with the town side pushing forward Bretforton hit Tamworth on the break, Vicky Butler again saved the town but was finally beaten late on, with the final score 4-2 and Tamworth’s cup run was over for this season. |
