Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI produced their most complete performance of the season to win 3-0 away to Oundle. Tamworth were boosted by the return of James Griffin and Ian Wagstaff to the defence and started to the game strongly as they looked to get in behind the high line of the hosts. Having fallen short with the final pass on a couple of occasions eventually Town found the breakthrough when Ryan Brisco dribbled across and into the D and his speculative slap shot went through a crowd of bodies and evaded the keeper. Oundle looked to hit back and had the greater possession with Ben Acton alert to save from just inside the post on a penalty corner and Tony Banks maintaining the clean sheet at the break. After the break Tamworth moved Elliott Birchall into centre midfield and almost immediately scored when a Wagstaff aerial was collected by Tom Sperrink who shot wide before Tom Hancox struck his shot into the side netting from the right. The pressure from the midfield would tell and a second goal would come soon after when Parry converted from just inside the D low into the left corner. This time Oundle couldn't respond and Sperrink got Tamworth's third goal when Hancox played into him with his back to goal he swivelled and rounded the keeper before tapping in reverse stick. Oundle had opportunities to score an equaliser but Banks twice denied them in one on one chances and Tamworth saw out the game for a valuable win. |
