Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI were victorious on Saturday as they won 7-0 against bottom of the table Buxton. Tamworth only had the bare eleven due to a late dropout but more than made up for the lack of numbers with an experienced side. This was needed in the first half as both sides struggled to impose themselves on the game and despite having chances to break the deadlock, with Ben Popple denied twice from reverse stick shots and Tom Hancox unable to find the finish to match the build up play. As befitting the game it was a scrappy goal that gave Tamworth a slender lead at the break when Popple worked his way along the baseline before cutting back for Tom Sperrink whose scuffed shot crept inside the keeper's near post. After the break the game was an entirely different affair with Tamworth pressing high up the pitch and maintaining this territorial dominance for most of the half. Hancox bagged a brace with a well placed slapshot into the corner after good work from Popple again and then placed his second beyond the despairing keeper, before Popple got himself a goal when captain James Griffin won the ball and played him in. Ryan Brisco was the next to score with Hancox turning provider this time after an excellent flowing move. Ian Wagstaff dispatched a penalty corner with a drag flick into the left hand corner before turning provider as his aerial found Sperrink who shot into the corner at the second attempt. The result to match recent performances and Tamworth must carry this into the next game away to South Nottingham. |
