Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI were beaten 4-1 away to Market Harborough in their first fixture of 2018. Tamworth were missing a number of regular players and could only field the bare eleven for this rearranged fixture. Despite this Town put in a combative display in the first half. Harborough had the greater possession and took the lead midway through the half but Tamworth defended resolutely kept themselves in the game at 1-0 at half time. After the break the lack of substitutes began to show and the game became far more open as tired legs played a factor. Harborough doubled their lead and as Tamworth pushed to try and find a way back into the game were picked off twice more on the break. A well worked move saw Tom Hancox lay off for Ryan Brisco to place his shot low into the corner to provide Town with a consolation with a powerful strike from Chris Lomas which was saved Tamworth's only other opportunity of note. Late call ups Lomas and Nich Rammell worked hard for the team and Tamworth showed battling qualities that if they can carry foward when players return should mean results improve as the season goes on. |
