Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI continued a disappointing campaign as early mistakes cost them in a frustrating 3-1 defeat at home to Derby. Tamworth lost the game in the opening 10 minutes when they were too slow to get up to speed and allowed Derby to take a two goal lead. The home side eventually found some rhythm and started to gain possession and create chances but having seen a close range shot saved followed good work by Tom Hancox they went further behind as a breakaway resulted in a converted penalty flick after keeper Tony Banks fouled having been left one on one and this lead was carried into half time. Following the break Tamworth continued to push forward and arguably had the better of the half but were thwarted by strong defence and profligacy from the forwards. A consolation came late in the game when Ian Wagstaff was fouled when ready to shoot and he converted from the penalty spot. |
