Match Report | Tamworth Men's First XI were narrowly beaten 3-2 in the second of their three trips to Market Harborough due to the quirk of the league and cup draws. Tamworth started the game strongly with Tom Hancox and Ben Popple causing lots of trouble for the hosts defence. Tamworth deservedly took the lead from a penalty corner when Ian Wagstaff saw a powerful drag flick fly off of the keepers arm and into the roof of the net. Town didn't make the most of this period of dominance and Harborough grew into the game and started to create chances of their own. They proved to be much more ruthless and scored twice to lead 2-1 at the break. Town got back on terms within 2 minutes of the restart Ryan Brisco and Popple linking up well before laying off to Hancox whose inch perfect shot flew into the bottom corner. Tamworth then retreated back into their shells and midway through the half the home side regained the lead which they would not relinquish despite having a player sent off for the final few minutes. A game of much greater quality than Tamworth have been involved in recently and whilst credit goes to the opposition, who were much more impressive than in the previous meeting, Tamworth can take heart from an improved performance. Andy Parker was Tamworth's best player in the midfield and youngsters Jasper Williams, Elliott Birchall and Ben Marshall all continued their progression with the first team. |
