Match Report | Tamworth Mens First XI were beaten 4-1 at home by local rivals Atherstone. The game started at a frenetic pace with both sides looking to gain the upper hand. Tamworth edged the early stages but Atherstone grew into the game and took control of the game midway through the half. This was a game of few chances but it was Tamworth who took theirs when an aerial ball was knocked down by Andy Parker and played down the left to Tom Sperrink who's pass across the face of the goal was converted by Chris Lomas loitering at the far post to give Town a slender advantage at the break. After the break Atherstone continued to have the better of the game and they got their reward as they were more clinical and scored a penalty corner to restore parity. They then took the lead from open play before confirming the win with a penalty flick. Another flick was awarded but James Miles in goal, who has now faced 4 flicks in two league games plus 4 in the cup shootout, saved to provide some small consolation to Town. |
