Match Report | Tamworth Men’s First XI rounded off their pre season schedule with a second consecutive over Worcestershire opponents. Following last weeks 5-2 victory over Redditch, Town travelled to Droitwich and despite a game low on quality and chances, ran out 2-0 victors. With a number of absentees Tamworth only had one recognised defender in the side and so it was left to Ben Acton to marshal the reshuffled back line which he did superbly including restricting Droitwich’s centre forward to one reverse stick shot and a crucial block to a shot from the top of D when goalkeeper James Miles had been left stranded. Both of those chances came in the first half where Tamworth also struggled to impose themselves on the game with neither side able to produce the requisite quality in the final third and chances were few and far between to leave the scoreline at 0-0 at half time. Following the break Tamworth showed greater attacking endeavour and Jasper Williams cut in well to create a chance when the ball popped up for Chris Lomas to hit the ball high into the goal. This seemed to relax Tamworth and they continued to push forward, Tom Hancox going close to adding to Town’s tally when he rounded the keeper only to shoot into the side netting. Soon after Hancox was given another chance when he picked up a pass into the D and lifted over the keeper. Overall a good win and there were positive signs with Miles dealing well with the few threats he faced, Tom Merriman covering in midfield well and promising performances from youngsters Louis Watkins and Elliott Birchall. Tamworth will hope to take their good form into their season opener away at Mansfield on Saturday. |
