Match Report | Tamworth travelled to Olton who along with Towcester came down from Midlands Division One this season and with Olton sitting bottom of the league Tamworth wanted to continue their winning streak. Olton 1sts who play National League were playing before our game and there was a couple of them that joined their 2nd team and within the first 10 minutes Tamworth were under pressure and Olton were on the score sheet. Tamworth settled into the game and over the next 15 minutes Gemma Rowe picked the ball up in her own half and skilfully beat several Olton players to get into their ‘D’ and it was like parting of the Red Sea, 2 strikes, 2 goals! Olton kept applying pressure and were awarded a penalty corner and Olton had 6 successive short corners but the defence line up of Nicky Youngman, Rachel and Charley Rowe, Becky Moore and Sarah Arnold kept them out, however just before half time Olton equalised to make it 2-2. The second half was end to end by both teams, but it was Tamworth that capitalised from a short corner shot that hit an Olton defender on the line so a penalty flick was awarded, Gemma Rowe stepped up to take the flick and with both of her previous goals going high the GK was unsure what to expect but the ball was strategically struck along the floor but over the line to get her hat trick!! Tamworth continued pressurising and Olton were getting very frustrated with Gemma Rowes skill however a great pass found Amie Hyde on the left who struck it across the ‘D’ and found Meg Jacobs who rolled out and put the ball in the back of the net. Olton again had a number of shorts but to no avail, but a minute to go got their 3rd.. A great team performance from Tamworth but no doubts Man of the Match was Gemma Rowe. |
