Match Report | Tamworth travelled away for their first league game of the season against their bogey team Solihull Blossomfield. Tamworth are starting their campaign with 3 regular first teamers from last season out to pregnancy, first game of the season since summer league for goal keeper Nicky Youngman, new player Georgie Langley into the squad, and a new coach!
The possession throughout the first half was very evenly played between both teams, Solihull put pressure on and had a couple of shots on goal but Nicky Youngman was soon off her line narrowing their chances of putting a shot in. Tamworth created and played good hockey, passing it around well with Georgie Langley having quite a lot of space in midfield. Solihull overloaded and attacked in numbers and was able to score the first goal of the match. Tamworth regrouped and reacted positively and continued passing the ball around well and were awarded a short corner. Straight strike from captain Gemma Rowe put us back on track by half time, just the boost Tamworth required.
Tamworth started the second half, keeping possession and attacking in numbers, the ball was taken into the ‘D’ by Georgie Langley who attempted a reverse stick shot on goal which was deflected off the keeper and in a goal mouth scramble Meg Jacobs managed to put the ball over the line. Solihull attacked with venom after this and Tamworth defence were under a lot of pressure, however GK Nicky Youngman on several occasions curtailed Solihull from equalising. Tamworth need to work on keeping the ball over the last quarter of the game when they are in front however, it was a rock solid performance from every team member, we worked hard for each other and remained mentally positive throughout the whole game. Man of the Match was GK Nicky Youngman.
