Match Report | The ladies thirds run of good form continued on Saturday as they beat Stafford 2-1 to move up to fourth in the table. Tamworth started positively moving the ball around with confidence building attacks from the back with Jo Cliffe and Kate Caddick finding lots of space down the flanks combining well with the forwards, such was their dominance they pinned Stafford back in their own half for much of the opening 20 minutes, the only disappointment for the town side was that they didn’t capitalise on this period of play as shots and passes went astray at crucial times. The town side were then left to rue their missed chances as with their first attack Stafford took the lead and went into the break a goal to the good. Still playing with confidence Tamworth continued dominate possession in the second half with Lesley Broadway having an excellent game in the centre of midfield the home side pressed for an equaliser which came about 15 minutes into the half when Captain Claire Miles picked up the ball beating a couple of players before slotting home. Although Stafford enjoyed more possession during the second half the towns defence held firm with Sam Bowyer and Vicky Sanford making some excellent tackles and clearances. Tamworth’s pressure was rewarded when they won a penalty corner Miles initial shot was saved but went straight to Elaine Foxley who dispatched a brilliant shot into the corner to give the town side a well-deserved lead, Di Milner almost added a third but her shot was well saved and the game ended 2-1 to the home side.
