Match Report | The ladies thirds completed the first half of the season with a good win over local rivals Lichfield on Saturday. Tamworth made an excellent start to the game and were 2-0 up in the opening 15 minutes, Claire Miles opened the scoring beating three players before coolly slotting past the keeper, Chris Mander added a second from close range soon after. The town side then relaxed too much as Lichfield regrouped and came more into the game enjoying long spells of possession but Tamworth’s defensive quartet of Jo Bryan, Lesley Broadway, Sam Bowyer and Wendy Garrett held firm making a number of vital tackles and clearances. Pressure finally told as Lichfield pulled a goal back late in the half to go into the break 2-1 down. Tamworth started brightly in the second session passing the ball around nicely with Nadia Williams a constant threat down the right flank, a short corner strike from Claire Miles restored the towns two goal cushion but Lichfield hit back again. The town’s fourth goal was a brilliant team effort as the ball was played out from the back to Emily Barker who combined well with Elaine Foxley and Chris Mander to set up Di Milner, Nadia Williams capped a fine performance scoring Tamworth’s fifth goal. Lichfield scored a third goal but the town side comfortably played out the remaining 10 minutes to end the first half of the season on a high. League and Team POM Nadia Williams |
