Match Report | Tamworth travelled to play Stafford 3rds fielding a much changed team, with many regular 4th team players stepping up to play. The town side started brightly putting a lot of pressure on the Stafford defence. The Stafford side then began to get into the game and were very quick on the break. They had a couple of breaks on the right hand side getting crosses in but luckily no-one was able to get on the end of them. Tamworth continued to keep the attacks going but Stafford were then able to break. They forced a couple of short corners but these were well defended. The first goal was then scored, against the run of play, with a bobbling shot wrong footing the keeper. Tamworth kept their heads up though and kept putting some lovely passing moves together and a great cross from Elaine Foxley found Alicia Dennison who coolly slotted it into the back of the net for her first goal for Tamworth. The half time the score was 1-1. The second half continued with Tamworth putting some more lovely passes together to maintain the pressure on Stafford. Youngsters Becky Warburton, on the left, and Tilly Bryan, on the right, worked tirelessly throughout the game to keep attacks going. A second Tamworth goal was a smashing shot from Elaine Foxley after beating several players. Stafford tried to up their attack after this goal and put more and more pressure on Tamworth's defence with Sam Bowyer having another solid game. They won several shot corners which were charged down by Lisa Morris-Wood or cleared by keeper Vicky Butler, but they kept the pressure on. With only a handful of minutes left on the clock they managed to get a shot in the far corner of the goal to once again level the scores, leaving the final result a 2-2 draw. Everyone in the team worked hard and showed great commitment for the whole game and should be proud of their performance. Team POM was Elaine Foxley. League POM was Vicky Butler and DOD was Jo Bryan. |
