Match Report |
Tamworth fell 5-3 in the opening game of the summer league to a more experienced Cannock side. The match started at a lively tempo and it was Cannock who took the early lead. Tamworth recovered well and enjoyed better possession before being rewarded with a goal when Ben Popple equalised after he intercepted high up the pitch and struck his shot reverse stick beyond the keeper. Cannock came back again and struck two goals in quick succession to take a 3-1 lead into half time. The home side saw the deficit widen as the visitors extended their lead to 4-1 soon after the break. Tamworth mounted a recovery to add some respectability to the scoreline. First Dylan Waldren was unfortunate to see his superb driving run and shot rebound off the post. Soon after Ben Popple was released down the right wing and he drilled his cross past the onrushing keeper for Tom Sperrink for to tap home. Moments later Sperrink got his second when he was left unmarked high up the pitch and rounded the keeper to grab his second. Cannock had the final say, scoring their fifth, to conclude an enjoyable and competitive match. |
